Inspired by the retro Americana sold in their shop, they began to sell and then manufacture their own line of fashion eyewear. Thus was born the iconic Shady Character label which included the ultra coveted James Dean eyewear collection.
By the mid Eighties, the enterprising pair expanded into accessories,
pajamas, and boxer shorts under the apt label ShadowBoxer.
To avoid confusion with another boxer brand, Abrams and Tepper renamed their fashion startup Nick & Nora®, paying homage to the high society sleuths Nick & Nora Charles of Dashiell Hammett's novel, The Thin Man.
As the brand was becoming a lifestyle brand through the strategic vision of Abrams, Target approached Abrams and Tepper in 2004 with the opportunity to expand Nick & Nora® to a broader audience. An agreement that was initially set up to last two years ended up lasting a extremely productive twelve years.

"We can't be everything to everyone, and that's part of our core philosophy. We've created a niche with our design sensibilities and we're sticking to it!"

As Dorothy Globus Twining
Museum Director of F.I.T pronounced: "Linda Tepper is an American designer with a unique vision and delicious sense of humor. Her marvelous designs and unique sensibility have made an important contribution to the American design landscape."

This approach turned Nick & Nora ® into a lifestyle brand with products developed for the home, kitchen, bath, bedding, dinnerware and children's sleepwear categories.
According to Abrams:"People love our prints so much that they want to sleep in them, on them, have them in their kitchen or bathrooms. The move from sleepwear to home and housewares was a natural extension. People want our designs around them."
Nick & Nora eventually encompassed Terry cloth robes, cosmetic and travel accessories, Silk loungewear, paper goods and party ware, casual women footwear and slippers, toddlers and children's daywear. In addition the brand fluidly bridge into: Bedding (including knit and woven flannel sheets, duvet covers, comforters, blankets and pillowcases); Kitchen (including tablecloths, napkins, placemats, kitchen towels, oven mitts, aprons, and floor mats); Bath (including shower curtains, bath towels, laundry bags, closet and laundry room products).
